Kenneth Alan Ryder, 65, of Edwardsville, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born on Dec. 21, 1950, in New York, N.Y., the son to Alan and Phyllis (nee Ayres) Ryder.
Kenneth married Judy Lannom in Kansas City, Mo., on Feb. 22, 1999.
The avid Kansas City sports fan spent the majority of his life in the Kansas City area supporting the Royals, Chiefs and Jayhawks. He was a salesman in the door and hardware industry with 30 years of service to the family business, Ryfam. Kenneth was manager for Total Lock & Security of Maryland Heights, Mo., for three years before he became ill. The U.S. Army and Navy veteran loved music and was a big fan of the Grateful Dead.
Besides his parents from Overland Park, Kan., and his wife, Kenneth is survived by a daughter, Gretchen Ryder, and Justin, of Overland Park, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Erin (Kyle) Krenzer of Talent, Ore.; one son, Zachary (Jordann) Ryder of Overland Park, Kan.; three grandchildren, Erik, Aiden and Lily; two brothers, Bob (Ann) Ryder of Charleston, S.C., and Carl (Vicki) Ryder of Camdenton, Mo.; and one sister, Patti Ryder of Kansas City, Mo.
Kenneth was preceded in death by a stepson, Connor McKinsey.
Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. The family will hold a Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at the Center for Spirituality and Sustainability on the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville campus.
