Kenneth William Britz, 78, of Granite City, passed away at 9:23 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born May 7, 1938, in Houghton, Mich., a son of the late Aloysius and Ailiin (Kohlemainen) Britz. He married Anna Ruby (Warden) Britz on April 3, 1964, in National City, Calif., and she passed away on Sept. 12, 2012. Kenneth retired from the Granite City Steel after 33 years of dedicated service as a millwright. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and later retired from the Army Reserves. He had served in Operation Desert Storm and was a member of the AMVETS Post No. 204 in Madison. He enjoyed his days of reading and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Michael Day of Granite City and Karen and Charles Wesbrook of Granite City; five grandchildren, Jamie Robinson, Ciara and Dan Kitley, Kolleen Wesbrook, Spencer Day, and Zach Day; five great- grandchildren, Darrian, David, Dylan, Victoria and Rayden; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Aloysius and June Britz of Wisconsin and David Brits of Alaska; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Britz.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church, 2001 St. Clair Ave. in Granite City.
