Kevin McRae, 62, died peacefully at his Bethalto home Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015.
Born July 31, 1953, to beloved parents, Dale and Lois McRae, he married his devoted wife, Stacy (Vig), on Nov. 20, 1982, and she survives.
Kevin was known to squeeze every moment out of every day. He was constantly busy with something or someone. His full schedule allowed him to touch many lives and make hundreds of lifelong friendships along the way.
Kevin worked his way through college while raising a young family and working full time. After completing his degree in accounting and graduating with honors from SIUE, he joined the Boeing Corporation. He took great pride in the fact that he was able to train and mentor hundreds of people during his 38-year tenure there.
Kevin believed strongly in public service. Since 1993, he served as Fort Russell Township Supervisor and previously served two terms on the Bethalto School Board. He coached numerous youth baseball and basketball teams. Somehow Kevin and his wife, Stacy, also found time to run a bookkeeping and tax business.
He was a proud and dedicated father and grandfather to his children and their families, Gordon McRae (Nicole), Jared McRae (Nicole), Katie McRae and Michael McRae (Samantha Arview); and his grandchildren, Jack, Miranda, and Sam will miss his whisker hugs and the loving pats on the back.
Kevin enjoyed spending summer days by the pool with his kids and grandkids and tending to his tomato plants and flowers. He was always the most encouraging playing partner during a round of golf. Kevin perfected the art of the nickname, thinking up monikers for every person and animal in his life.
Kevin’s man cave included a big-screen TV fit for the rabid Cardinal fan that he was, an extensive personal library including numerous books on the Civil War and his constant companions — dogs Ellie and Cele and his cat, Maggie. He was a man of faith and those who mourn his passing are comforted by the image of him in heaven playing pinochle with his parents, talking baseball with Stan the Man and having a few questions for generals Grant and Lee.
In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Kevin is survived by six siblings, Steve McRae (Holly), Dan McRae (Susan), Terri Downs, Tom McRae (Patti), Barb Bryant (Steve) and Jeff McRae (Tina); as well as his sister-in-law, Paula Ostrom (Ron Moulds); brother-in-law, Tom Paquette (Janice); his wife’s cousin, Nancy Reeder (Cliff); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Lori McRae; nephews, Thomas Rice and Jayson Ostrom; and a niece, Danna McRae; as well as his mother and father-in-law, Desmond and Pauline Vig; and sister-in-law, Dulcy Paquette.
