Leonard F. Svoboda, 76 of Branchburg, N.J., passed away Monday, July 27, 2015.
Leonard was born May 8, 1939, in Glen Carbon, the son of the late Frank and Rose (Sedlacek) Svoboda. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. Leonard married Sharon Malone on Aug. 26, 1961. They shared a devoted life together in Granite City and Glen Carbon until her passing in 2013. He served on the Granite City Police Department for nearly 25 years and later worked at US Steel for 10 years. He will be remembered for his love of fishing and baseball, his integrity, kind heart, and the many special times shared together with family.
He is survived by sons, Michael Svoboda of Portland, Ore., and Glenn and (Katya) Svoboda of Branchburg, N.J.; grandchildren, Sarah Svoboda and Max Svoboda of Portland, Ore., and Drew Svoboda and Tessa Svoboda of Branchburg, N.J. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In celebration of his life, a memorial gathering will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road Granite City.
