Leroy L. Burch, 84, of Granite City, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at his home.
He was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Elvins, Mo.
He married Nora Lee (Williams) Burch on Nov. 16, 1949, in Elvins, Mo., and she survives.
Leroy retired from the U.S. Navy on July 1, 1966, after 20 years of dedicated and faithful service to his country. He later retired in 1991 from Southwest Steel in Madison after 20 years as a crane operator. He attended Mount Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City. He loved his days of fishing and enjoyed hunting and tending to his garden. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Teri Pingel of Granite City, Vesa Blanton of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Nedra and Kevin Kerns of Granite City; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
He was preceded by his mother, Cora (Burch) Sutterfield; two sons, Sam and Kevin Burch; and one daughter, Vanessa “Pebbles” Mullis.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, with the Rev. Steve Gray officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.
