Lewis Grant Bailey, 73, of Moro, died at 11:22 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born March 4, 1941, in St. Louis, a son of the late Herman Delmar and Lillian Adele (Bryant) Bailey. He was raised in Washington, Mo., and had graduated from Washington High School. He was also a graduate of Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Mo. He married Marilyn Elizabeth (Monika) Bailey on June 24, 1969, in St. Louis and she survives. He retired from the U.S. government as a mechanical engineer after many years of dedicated service at Scott Air Force Base. He had also worked several years at Olin Corporation in East Alton. The U.S. Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a licensed private pilot and certified flight trainer and loved his days of flying. He was a classic car enthusiast, an avid Corvette fan and a past member of area Corvette clubs. He was a member of area RC airplane clubs, was an avid traveler throughout the world and was a gifted musician and talented artist. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a sister, Carole “Stacey” Geddes of University City and Bourbon, Mo.; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Emily Monika of Raleigh, N.C. and Richard and Mary Monika of Chesterfield, Mo.; many nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Allen Bailey; and two infant sisters.
In celebration of his life, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Old Des Peres Church, 2250 North Geyer Road in Frontenac, Mo., 63131 and convenient parking will be at 458 Steeple Chase Lane in Frontenac.
