Lois Jeanette (Walker) Kenser, 66, of Cottage Hills, was taken to heaven by the Lord’s Angels at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Alton Rehab & Nursing Home in Alton.
She was born in Alton on Sept. 9, 1948, the daughter to Ralph J. and Cora M. (Palmer) Walker. She married Jerry Lee Kenser on April 12, 1974, in Alton. He died on July 20, 2008.
Lois was a 1966 graduate of Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto and was in the National Honor Society. She worked for the Bethalto School System as a secretary in the Superintendent’s office for many years; then she and her husband were managers for the Motel 6 chain in Porterville, Calif., for three years. They returned to the Alton area in 1983, where Lois worked at Lewis and Clark Community College as a secretary for 23 years until her retirement in 2006.
Lois professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at the age of 13. She attended the Forrest Mission Assembly of God Church in Forest Homes, Ill., until her move to California with her husband.
Lois liked to crochet, read and travel. She and her husband traveled to several states to trace his genealogy. Lois loved her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and she was an animal lover. Her “children” were her dog, Mooch and cats, Gracie and Tipper.
She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Nancy L. Walker, Dale and Linda (Vatole) Walker and Larry “Beau” Walker, all of Cottage Hills, Mary and Mike Mixon of Independence, Mo., and Gary and Nanette Walker of El Cajon, Calif.; two nephews and three nieces and their spouses, Kyle and Tamara Walker of Liberty, Mo., Marissa and Donta Cunningham, Miranda and Anthony Hellar, all of Independence, Mo., Grace Ruth Walker and Josiah Timothy Walker, both of El Cajon, Calif.; great-nieces and nephews, Jordon Mixon, Ekyra Cunningham, Donta Cunningham Jr., Jocelyn Mixon, Elijah Betancourt and Antoneyo Hellar, all of Independence, Mo.; one uncle and aunt, Edgar and Hallene Palmer of Dorsey, and many, many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her parents, Ralph and Cora Walker; her in-laws, Leroy and Hazel Kenser; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015, at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dave Burger officiating.
Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Lemay, Mo. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice of Alton.
