Lorene K. Peek
Lorene K. Peek, 90, of Godfrey, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2014, at Blu Fountain Nursing Home under the care of Heartland Hospice following several months of failing health.
She was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Fidelity Township, the daughter of the late William Francis and Kathryn Quirk. She was a Christmas bride, marrying her high school sweetheart, Jean E. Peek, on Dec. 25, 1941. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2001. Lorene was a talented and creative artist, quilter and enjoyed arts and crafts of all varieties. Her pieces adorn the homes of many friends and families and live on in her memory. She also enjoyed traveling inside and outside the United States, especially to her family’s native land in Ireland. She kissed the Blarney stone. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry K. Huber of Godfrey; son, Terry and his wife, Janet of Godfrey. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Lori Tassinari of Alton, Brian Peek of Denver and Tyler Peek of Alton; and great-grandchildren, Marc Tassinari and Mia Tassinari of Alton.
Lorene is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jean Peek; son-in-law, Bill Huber in 2013; and grandson, Marc Huber in 1990.
She was the manager of the Top Value Redemption store for 12 years and a sales associate at JC Penney’s for 15 years, retiring in 1993.
Prayer service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Deacon Bill Kessler officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her honor to Children’s Home and Aid, 6 Crossroads Court, Alton, IL 62002, or a charity of one’s choice.
