Lucille Alberta Caban, 88, of Granite City, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Gateway Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Granite City, a daughter to the late William and Naomi (Dilger) Shable.
Lucille was a longtime executive secretary for the Granite City School District and an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
She is survived by and will be missed by her sons, Paul Caban III of Granite City and Jeff and (Donna) Caban of Granite City; daughter, Gloria and (William) McCutheon of Brookfield, Wis.; grandchildren, Michael Caban, Erik Caban, Heather and (Jeff) Paradis, Rachel and (Adam) Sternberg; great-grandchildren, Madeline Lucile Paradis, Frances Claire Paradis, and Henry James Paradis; brother, William Shable; sisters, Shirley Kingsley and Louise Papa; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Joseph Caban Jr., whom she married on March 10, 1945; and her sister, Sylvia Theis.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life, services will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Ave. in Granite City with Fr. Manuel Cuizon officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials are suggested to Masses.
