Mabel “Esther” Klepzig, 101, of Worden, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at home with her family by her side.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1913, near Toweridge, the daughter of the late Lewis and Anna (Whitaker) Ballinger.
Esther married Joseph Klepzig on Dec. 3, 1933, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1997.
She loved to play Uno and Skip-Bo with her grandchildren. Esther also enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth Klepzig of St. Louis and Carl and Hildegard Arnold of Leavenworth, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Leona Klepzig of Benton; three daughters, Alice and Woody Terry of Olive Branch, Miss., Lois and Paul Opel of Worden, Elaine and Dorne Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren and their spouses, Kenna and Ray Stock, LeAndra and Clarence Vogelzang, Regina and Matt Dearing, Tim and Tracy Klepzig, Shaundra and Tommy Stapleton, Tom and Liz Klepzig, Petra Arnold, Glen Arnold, Sherry and Jimmy Rhodes, Darl and Judy Opel, Paula and Henry Lenhardt, Todd and Jenny Powers, Trent and Julie Powers, Cara and Andrew Van Dyke, Amanda and Mervyn Chung-Fat, Drew Smith, and Jessa Smith; 37 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Don Klepzig; a daughter and son-in-law, Mabel and John Powers; two daughters-in-law, Vera Klepzig and Erma Klepzig; and two grandsons, Jerry Lipka and Dale Opel.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at noon Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Jeffrey Vogelzang and Delmar Stockwell officiating.
Burial will follow at Worden Cemetery.
