Marie J. Nurnberger, 90, of Jerseyville, died at 2 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1925, in Jersey County, the daughter to the late Lester W. and Edna M. (Boker) Geisler.
Marie married Otto H. Nurnberger on Jan. 16, 1946, of Jerseyville. He died June 20, 2001.
She was a homemaker. Marie was also a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Brighton, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the Women’s Fellowship. She also belonged to the Rebekah’s Lodge No. 686.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Piper of Jerseyville; one son and daughter-in-law, Otto and Brenda Nurnberger of Jerseyville; four grandchildren, Julie Piper of Wichita, Kan., Gary Piper and Brock Keiper of Elmhust, Ill., Ryan and Genna Nurnberger of Chicago, Jamie and Jon Cargill of Glasgow, Scotland; and one great-grandchild; Rosie Marie Cargill.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Warren and Lester Jr. “Buss” Geisler; and one sister, Pauline Gotter.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Brighton
Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Brighton. The Rev. Laurie Crelly will officiate. Burial will be at Brighton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ in Brighton.
The family would like to thank the staff at Glenhaven, BJC Hospice of Alton and the Wound Center of St. Anthony’s for the care they have given to Marie.
