Marjorie Ann Szczepanik, 80, of Granite City, passed away at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at her home.
She was born Nov. 21, 1933, in East St. Louis, a daughter of the late William and Thelma (Kearns) Matthias.
She married Charles John Szczepanik on June 1, 1957, in East St. Louis and he passed away on June 30, 1988. Marjorie was devoted mother and grandmother and had served on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Civic Ballet Company.
Marjorie was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and was a graduate of St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis. She was also a member of the East St. Louis Women’s Club and the Phi Tau Omega Sorority (Beta Chapter). She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by one son, Charles J.G. Szczepanik of St. Louis; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn E. Baumann and husband, Dave, of Granite City, Geri Ann Kurilla Brandmeyer and husband, Eric, of Edwardsville, and Ann Margaret Sykes and husband, Craig, of Granite City; grandchildren, Greg Baumann, Alyssa Baumann, Kaitlin Kurilla, Colleen Kurilla, Kirstin Kurilla, Kelsey Ridpath and husband, Joe, Caleb Brandmeyer, Claire Sykes, Emily Sykes and Megan Sykes; great-granddaughter, Aubree Kurilla; best friend, Delora “Bootsie” Schrenk of Granite City; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; an infant daughter, Mary Ann; and a sister, Marilyn (Matthias) Belobraydic.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Ave. in Granite City, on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 at 10 a.m. with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
