Marlene Y. Painter, 76, of Granite City, passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
She was born April 6, 1938, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Azari) Hoover.
She married John H. Painter on June 11, 1955, in Granite City and he passed away on Oct. 10, 1993.
Marlene retired from Royal Globe Insurance Company in St. Louis after 14 years of dedicated service as an insurance rater. She was a member of the former First Baptist Church and attended Calvary Baptist Church, both in Granite City. She enjoyed her days of traveling and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eric Painter of Granite City and Jeff and LeeAnn Painter of Muscotah, Kansas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Rick Hensley of Jefferson, Texas, and Rebecca and Denny Best of Staunton; six grandchildren and their spouses, Dalton Best, Kelly Best and Owen Best, all of Staunton, Eleshia and Sean Matheny of Prosper, Texas, Shane and Machelle Hensley of Wylie, Texas, and Luke and Lynsey Hensley of White House, Texas; three grandchildren, Addison and Morgan Matheny and Conner Hensley, all of Texas; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ronald and Margaret Hoover of Abilene, Texas, and Richard Hoover of Granite City; one sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Randy Graham of Granite City; special friend and traveling buddy, Hal Matousek and his family; other extended family and many dear friends. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband of 38 years and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roger A. Hoover.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, with the Rev.
