Marvin E. Mallory, 86, of Rosewood Heights, was born on Sept. 28, 1928, in Novinger, Mo. He departed this life on July 2, 2015, after a full life as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, businessman, general contractor and involved community member.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Crystal (Ellsworth) Mallory.
He is survived by Lois Whitworth Mallory; his former wife, Helen Mallory Powell; three sons, David (Karen) Mallory, Don Mallory and Doug (Janie) Mallory; six grandchildren, Brian Mallory, Kim Hasenjaeger, Kelly Mallory, Kevin Mallory, Christi Norris and Renee Galbraith; and four great-grandchildren.
Marvin was active in his community, was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Wood River, a former member of the Wood River Optimist Club and founded M.E. Mallory Construction in 1950. He and his son David founded Mallory Sports in Wood River in 1976.
He was respected for his work and for being a good and true person. A handshake was like a written contract to him. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
Marvin loved softball, golf, fishing, boating and water skiing. He also loved Southern Gospel and country music and loved to square dance, to which he was involved in several clubs and had served as President of the Greater St. Louis League of Square Dance Clubs.
Marvin lived a full life; full of many joys and struggles. He will be remembered as a good man, an unparallelled worker, and most of all, a friend.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015.
Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.
