Marvin Wayne Saville, 68, of Alton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at his home.
He was born Dec. 23, 1945, in Alton, the son of Harold and Glenn (Treadway) Saville.
He married Ellen Hayes on July 3, 1965, and she survives.
Marvin was a member of St. Mary’s Church. He played organ at many area Catholic churches as well as many community events. He also sang in the Riverbend Community Gospel Choir. Every Wednesday he and a group would entertain others in local nursing homes. Marvin was on the Board of Directors at Alton Day Care and Learning Center. He retired from Meyer and Associates in 2012. He was a past member of the Alton Jaycees. He and his wife, Ellen, were team captains for Worldwide Marriage Encounter for the Springfield Diocese. Marvin was active with his grandkids and found time to attend all of their activities.
He will be remembered as a gentle person who always made time for his family as well as others. He loved everybody with his whole heart just as he loved his God.
There was truly no one else like him. Marvin would hear you say you wanted something, offer to get it, and be up out of his chair before you could even reply. He never thought twice about helping someone and inconvenience wasn’t even in his vocabulary.
In addition to his wife, Ellen, he is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy Williamson of Godfrey, Amy and Bryan Stewart of Fort Smith, Ark., and Rachel Watson of Affton, Mo.; a sister, Lorna Duffrin of Fairborn, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Laurita Saville of Nixa, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, James, Nicole, Valerie, Daemon, Joseph, Jakob, Dayton, Isaac, Skylar and Christa; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman.
