Mary “Irene” Bond, 93, of Rosewood Heights, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015, with her family by her side.
She was born on Nov. 5, 1921, in Alton, the daughter of the late George and Rebecca (Emmons) Tungett.
Irene married Clayton D. Bond on Dec. 10, 1938, in St. Charles, Mo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2000.
She was a homemaker, a beloved wife, and nurturing matriarch of five generations. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Cindy and Lester Schlemer of Alton, Connie and Mike Collins of East Alton, Clayton “Butch” Bond and special friend Judy of Rosewood Heights, Gordon and Theda Bond of Meadowbrook; eight grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Linda Collins of Wood River, Traci and Jason Wright of Fosterburg, Melissa and Steve Schnare of St. Charles, Mo., Martin and Shannon Bond of Bethalto, Erin and Paul Ventimiglia of Alton, Christopher Hines and special friend Amanda of Godfrey, Nicholas Bond of Keysport, and Courtney and Jacob Koch of Rosewood Heights; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Carson Wright; and four siblings, Lucille Sloan, Homer, Robert, and William Tungett.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, with Pastor Ron Wenzel officiating.
Burial will be follow at Bethalto United Methodist Cemetery in Bethalto.
