Mary Ann Zugmaier, 66, of Edwardsville, died at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born June 8, 1947 in Affton, MO, the daughter of the late Peter and Viola Anna (Dixon) Geiser. She married Bernard R. “Ben” Zugmaier on Sept. 9, 1967, in St. Louis and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2008. She retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after many years of dedicated administrative service. She was a dedicated and faithful member and volunteer at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville and enjoyed volunteering at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Florissant, MO. She loved her years of owning and operating her karaoke business, “Merrioke,” and was well known as “Crazy Mary.” She enjoyed her days of gardening, fishing and playing cards at the Edwardsville Senior Center. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Heidi Zugmaier of Glen Carbon; two grandchildren, James and Holly Zugmaier; two brothers and a sister-in-law, William and Misty Geiser of Carrollton and Ronald Geiser of Granite City; sister-in-law, Helen Geiser of St. Louis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald J. and Paula Zugmaier of Godfrey; nieces and nephews, Ronald Geiser, Joseph Pruiett, Jeffrey Geiser, Joshua Geiser, Tony Geiser, Genia Enders; Hayley Zugmaier and Blair Zugmaier; special friend, Mike Zimmerman of Edwardsville; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Geiser.
In celebration of her life, visitation was at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Sunday, March 23, 2014. A funeral service was held at Irwin Chapel on Monday, March 24, 2014 with Deacon Dan Corbett officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to the Edwardsville Senior Center or to Masses and may be accepted at the funeral home.
