Mary Esther Borkowski, 88, of Granite City, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
Esther was born July 17, 1927, in Venice to the late William and Roxanna (nee Babel) Downs.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and who loved to dance.
Esther is survived by three daughters: Teri (Vincent) Bonvicino of Granite City, Deborah (Franklin) Borkowski Nolen of Granite City and Michele (Paul) Eads of Granite City; nine grandchildren, Christopher Borkowski, Robert Mueller, Vincent Bonvicino II, Sean Bonvicino, Scott Bonvicino, Jeremy (Julie) Borkowski, Joshua ( Jessica) Borkowski and Rebecca Prifti; and eight great-grandchildren, Josie Hogue, Brayden Winnie, Joshua Borkowski Jr., Avery Borkowski, Jordan Borkowski,
Andrew Franklin, Hailey Franklin and Cencio Bonvicino. Also surviving are three sisters: Glenna Townzen of Caseyville, Margaret Gilbert of Troy and Shirley Downs of Illinois, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her significant other, Marvin “Dud” Elmore; four brothers, William Downs II, Bud Downs, Eugene Downs and Carl Downs; and four sisters, Virgie Rodiguez, Dolores Shock, Wilma Downs and Pauline Resmann.
Visitation will be from noon to time of service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory in Granite City.
Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Heart Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
