Mary Janeen Shafer, 67, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at home with family at her side.
She was born in LaSalle on July 2, 1947, the daughter of the late Eugene and Elizabeth (Westermayr) Shafer.
Mary was a secretary for JC Schlosser. She enjoyed Bingo and going to Argosy Casino. Mary liked movies and crafting, but mostly spending time with her great nieces and nephews.
She is survived by one sister, Jill (Aloysius, “Bill”) Voelker; one niece, Samantha (Kyle) Marquardt; one nephew, Josh (Erin) Voelker; one great-niece, Amelia; and four great-nephews, Mason, Jack, Waylon and Elwood.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the following caregivers for all their care and compassion for Mary over the last year, Becki Matthews, Felicia Caldwell, Dwighteasha “Pink” Thomas, Amy Wallace, Keitra Wallace and Carolynne Faulkner; and a cousin, Cindy Bowman.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015, at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Private burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
