Mary Lou McCollum, 83, passed away at 11:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, surrounded by family at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis.
Born in Alton on June 30, 1932, Mary Lou was the daughter of John Patrick Dunphy of Jerseyville and Ruth A. Alexander of the Alton area.
She was married Sept. 30, 1955, to Denver (Mac) McCollum, recently celebrating 60 years of marriage. Along with time spent with friends and family, Mary enjoyed reading, cooking, listening to music and Cardinals baseball. She got great pleasure from feeding and watching both birds and wildlife in her back yard.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband; three sons, Gregg of Kirkwood, Mo., Brian of Staunton and Barry of Mastic Beach, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Jesse McCollum and Caitlin McCollum; one brother, Franklin (Spider) Dunphy of Alton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Dunphy and Tom Dunphy; and two sisters, Norma Dunphy and Becky Glowacki.
Visitation will be at Staten Funeral Home in Alton from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with a brief service in the chapel.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
