Mary Ruth Galayda, age 86, of Granite City, passed away on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City. Mary was born Oct. 12, 1928 in St. Louis, a daughter to the late Clyde and Hilda (Pfeiffer) Richerson.
On Feb. 22, 1955, Mary Richerson married Steve Galayda in St. Louis, and together they were united in marriage for 60 years. Mary was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Granite City and was a member of the Parkinson Support Group in Glen Carbon. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and pets. Mary will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Steve Galayda; dear children and son-in-law, Karen and Eddy Trim and Steve Alan Galayda, all of Granite City; and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at Hope Lutheran Church, 3715 Wabash Ave., Granite City.
In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Alan Buester officiating. Interment will be in Reese Cemetery, Hallidayboro, Ill.
Memorial donations may be given to Granite City A.P.A. or Parkinson’s Association and will be accepted at the church.
