Maurine Lewallen, 92, of Washington, Mo., formerly of Granite City, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Washington, Mo.
She was born in Litton, Ky., on Aug. 8, 1923.
Maurine lived in Cadiz, Ky., until she moved to Granite City in 1947. In 1952, Maurine married Harvey Lewallen and he passed away in 1993. She lived in Granite until 2012, when she moved to Washington, Mo., to be near her daughter. She was active in her church, Calvary Baptist in Granite City, where she worked in the church nursery for many years. She enjoyed shopping, crocheting, and time spent with family.
In addition to her husband, Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mae (Mize) Williams; her brother and sister-in-law, Maynard Boyd and Mildred (Bryant) Williams; one daughter, Janice Kay Bridges; son-in-law, Max Wayne Gorrell Sr.; and one grandson, Max “Wayne” Gorrell Jr.
Maurine is survived by a daughter, Nola Gorrell of Washington, Mo.; a son, Larry (Marty) Bridges of Highland; grandchildren, Susan Gorrell, Karen (David) Ross, Daniel Gorell, Michelle (Stephen) Ziadie, Jamey (Kelly) Bridges, and Angie (Geof) Wampler; 17 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City.
In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Irwin Chapel, with Pastor Jamey Bridges officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon.
Memorial donations may be given to American Diabetes Foundation or to the Leukemia Society and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
