Mavis C. Utechtt, 88, of Troy and formerly of Edwardsville, passed away at 4:53 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
She was born July 23, 1926, in Edwardsville, a daughter of the late William A. and Camilla (Provaznik) Bauer.
She married Edward G. Utechtt on May 8, 1946, at Eden Church in Edwardsville and he preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 2001. Mavis had worked as an operator with Illinois Bell and was a dedicated and faithful homemaker for many years. She was a member of Eden United Church of Christ in Edwardsville. She enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee, crocheting, watching and feeding her birds and squirrels and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Dale Radcliff of Troy, Jan and Richard Frey of Glen Carbon and Melinda and James Trebing of Edwardsville; one son, Mike Utechtt of Edwardsville; six grandchildren and their spouses, Kari and Aaron Musskopf of Edwardsville, Kelly and Doug Bertrand of Worden, Sara Trebing and fiancé, Ben Cardwell, of Washington, D.C., Shana Trebing of Edwardsville, Jeff Radcliff of Ozark, Mo., and Jamie and Matt Gorman of Collinsville; four great-grandchildren, Paige and Zachary Muskopf and Audrey and Ava Bertrand; a brother and sister-in-law, Reeves and Dorothy Bauer of Nampa, Idaho; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Victor Sauerwein of Bunker Hill; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lorene Opel; and three brothers, Roland, Calvin and Carlton Bauer.
In celebration of her life, private services will be held at Irwin Chapel in Glen Carbon on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville. The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association or to the Cardinal Glennon N.I.C.U. and may be accepted at the funeral home, www.irwinchapel.com.
