Melvin Wesley Tucker Jr., 73, of St. Charles, Mo., formerly of East Alton and Wood River, passed away at 6:18 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at SSM St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles.
He was born Oct. 17, 1941, in Alton, the son of the late Melvin Wesley and Mary (Jenkins) Tucker Jr. He married the former Robin Stevens Dec. 10, 1993, in East Alton and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters and a son- in-law, Lisa Tucker of Fenton, Mo., Karrie Tumelson Schulte and her husband, Ricky, of O’Fallon, Mo.; an expectant grandchild; one sister and brother-in-law, Marigene and John Popowchak of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; and one brother, Ray Tucker of St. Charles.
Wes was formerly employed for 13 years as the Treasurer for the Village of East Alton. He then worked as the Madison County Treasurer’s Office as the Deputy Treasurer under John Shimkus. He owned and operated Tucker’s Insurance, Accounting, and Tax Services in East Alton for many years. Wes was a member of the Wood River Kiwanis, the Wood River Masonic Lodge No. 1062 A.F. & A.M., and a former member of the East Alton Rotary Club. Wes served on the East Alton-Wood River High School school board for many years. Wes and Robin enjoyed many hours fly fishing at Bennett Springs. He attended Calvary Church in St. Peters, Mo. Wes was a friend, father figure and mentor to many.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at the funeral home. Pastor Raymond Washington will officiate. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
