Nellie Schlemer, 91, of Granite City, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at University Nursing and Rehabilitation in Edwardsville. She was born March 19, 1924, in Edwardsville, a daughter of the late Arthur and Pearl (Smith) Cunningham.
She married Paul “Boots” Schlemer in October 1947 and he passed away in 1990. Nellie was a dedicated homemaker and had also worked at the Granite City Army Depot and had retired from Home Nursery in Edwardsville. She enjoyed attending the Assembly of God churches and was a member of the Edwardsville Moose Lodge since 1967. She had a special love for animals.
She is survived by a niece, Patricia A. Dawes of Granite City; many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Cunningham and Murel Cunningham and a sister, Alvera Jones.
In celebration of her life and in accordance to her wishes, private services were held.
