Norman “Tom” Thomas Schumacher, 77, of Dorsey, passed away at 10:18 a.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016, at his home.
He was born March 20, 1939, in St. Louis, the son of the late Carl and Mathilda (nee Idecker) Schumacher. He was the brother of the late Carl R. Schumacher (Ann).
Tom was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mehlville, Mo., and was a graduate of Mehlville High School. He served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a 1962 graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia, with a BS degree in Marketing, and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He spent the majority of his career working as a Systems Analyst for McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis.
Tom is survived by his wife, P. Darlene Schumacher (nee Baltzell) of Dorsey; two daughters, Denise Threlkeld (Christopher) of Edwardsville, and Christel Wickenhauser of Moro; and five grandchildren, Connor and Riley Threlkeld and Adam, Ethan and Benjamin Wickenhasuer.
Tom enjoyed nature and caring for animals, especially his dogs and his Arabian and Morgan horses. He also enjoyed winter sports, especially snow skiing. He was an award-winning member of the Greater St. Louis Archaeological Society.
In 2006, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He courageously chose to participate in clinical trials at Siteman Cancer Center, hoping his results would help others battling this deadliest of all cancers.
According to his request, his remains were cremated. A memorial visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
