Paul Luther Burkhart Jr., 94, of Godfrey, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis with his family by his side.
He was born Feb. 10, 1921, in Palmerton, Penn., the son of the late Paul Luther and Florence (Weller) Burkhart Sr.
Paul married Martha “Louise” Hartley on July 21, 1945 and she preceded him in death on April 28, 1992. He married Lola Pitts on March 11, 1995, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 2013.
Paul was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon, Elder and was involved in sessions. He worked as a Chemical Engineer for Shell Oil Company. Paul was a member of the Boy Scouts for more than 50 years and a member of the Godfrey Lions Club. He also volunteered at Alton Memorial Hospital, was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge and the Alton Eagles Lodge.
He is survived by a son, Randolph “Randy” Burkhart of Keizer, Ore.; a daughter, Barbara L. Burkhart of St. Louis; and three grandchildren, Christopher, James and Olivia Burkhart.
In addition to his parents and his spouses, he was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Burkhart III; and siblings.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts or the Lions Club.
