Peter “Pete” C. Hammond, 80, of Granite City, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Sept. 1, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo., the son to Peter Hammond and Clara (nee Misiorski) Whitaker.
Pete served in the United States Army and retired as a meat cutter after working for Miller Provision and Tarlas Food both in Madison.
He and Dessie “Laverne Marlette married on March 30, 1957, in Granite City.
He is survived by his wife, Dessie “Laverne” (nee Marlette) Hammond of Granite City; daughter, Karen (Jerry) Brokaw; two sons, Donald (Dawn) Hammond and Ricky (Michelle) Hammond, all of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Nick, Megan, Brandi, Susan, Brittany, Ryan and Emily; five great-grandchildren, Leigha, Allyce, Logan, Kaylee and Melodee; brother, David (Ruth) Hammond of Benld; and sister, Rose Marie (Cliff) Jones of Granite City.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Bryson.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Berry Shepherd officiating. Graveside services to follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates Glen Carbon.
