Philip David Schwerdtfeger, 73, of Marine, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Sept. 1, 1942, in Evansville, Ind., the son to the late Farrand Cosby and Catherine Davis (Walker) Schwerdtfeger.
On July 14, 1962, he and Carolyn Louise Rowen were married in Overland, Mo. She survives in Marine.
Mr. Schwerdtfeger was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1960 to 1962. He retired as a machinist. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in St. Jacob. He enjoyed music, woodworking, fixing things and tinkering.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by two daughters, Janna (Barry) Rasmussen of Creswell, Ore., and Johnell Cook of Granite City; six grandchildren, Kathryn, Pamela, Matthew, Carolyn, Patrick and Nickolas; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy Miller of Louisville, Ky., and Bernice Hays of Winter Garden, Fla.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
The family will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Central Baptist Church, 9652 Hwy 40, St. Jacob, IL 62281.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
