Phyllis M. Joehl, 89, of Alton, passed away at 1:41 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at home with her family by her side while under the care of BJC Hospice.
She was born Sept. 24, 1926, in Quincy, the daughter of the late George and Florence (Freese) Pfeifer.
Phyllis married Edward Joehl Oct. 15, 1949, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy. He survives.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, volunteered at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton, and was a member of St. Ann Altar Society. Phyllis was a former member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy, attended St. Francis Grade School and Notre Dame Catholic High School in Quincy, and attended Gem City Business College in Quincy. She loved needle-pointing, crewel work, reading and crossword puzzles.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Edward; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Robert “Bob” Jourdain of Alton; two granddaughters and their husbands, Ellen and Mark Miller of Westlake Village, Calif., and Kate and Barry Schranck of Alton; one great-grandson, Bradley Miller of Westlake Village, Calif.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Arlene Koch of Quincy, Marilyn and Donald Twedell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Georgeanne Florence and Jim Odorizzi of Lake Forest; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. John Paul Klein, OMV, as celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Masses at St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Marquette Catholic High School.
