Phyllis M. Maas, 94, of Godfrey, passed away peacefully at 8:07 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 6, 1920, in Granite City, the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian (Davis) Maserang.
She married Leo E. Maas in Granite City on April 7, 1956. He passed away on April 14, 1988.
Phyllis was the devoted wife of a dairy farmer. She was a member of both St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey and of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Her four grandchildren were her life, and she lived to spoil them. Phyllis was known as “Gram” to many others, and had several honorary grandchildren as well.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Maas of Godfrey, Kathleen and Barry Liles of Godfrey and Barbara and Steven Johnson of Fieldon. Her four cherished grandchildren are Natalie Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Jennifer Liles and Melissa Liles.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
