Raymond E. Jones Sr., 77, of Granite City passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1938, in Granite City, a son to the late Oscar and Gladys ( Fry) Jones.
Raymond was a longtime truck driver for the Granite City Waste Water Treatment Facility. In his free time, Raymond enjoyed playing a good game of golf and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Rams. He was a talented softball player and loved to cut his grass. Raymond was known by his family for painting his truck, several times and many different colors. He will be remembered for his kind heart and all the special times he shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife, Melba (Ireland) Jones, whom he married on Aug. 20, 1960; his son, Raymond and (Diane) Jones Jr. of Granite City; his daughter, Tracy and (Eberardo) Sanchez of Granite City; grandchildren, Samantha Woods, Brittney and (Jacob) Hartman, Raymond E. Jones III, Austin Jones and Nicolas Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Jonavan Woods and Jailynn Rae Woods; and brother, James L. and (Donna) Jones.
In celebration of Raymond’s life, friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Memorials are suggested to the family.
