Richard E. Sewell, 80, of Alton, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 25, 1935, in Roxana, the son of Charles and Leda (Marie) Sewell.
He married Barbara Lawson in Alton in 1958. She survives.
Richard was a great father and husband who loved to fish, horse racing, and spending time with his family during their poker games.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children and their spouses, Charles and Annette Sewell of Alton, Julie Smith of Alton, Cheryl Sewell and Jim Hyman of Alton, Carol Scoggins and Dennis Abrams of Cottage Hills, and Tim Sewell of Randleman, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a close family friend, Mary Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Rummerfiled; and two great-grandchildren, Lilly-Ann and Logan Anthony Walker.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor Charles West will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sierra Club.
