Richard W. Boeker, 79, of Hamel, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at his residence in Hamel.
He was born on Thursday, Oct. 24, 1935, in Hamel, the son of Erwin and Martha (nee Schroeder) Boeker.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, 1958, he married Margie A. Boeker (nee Abert), who survives.
Richard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hamel; Southern Illinois Builders Association, Board of Directors (three years); Village of Hamel, Trustee (1977-1987); Village of Hamel, Mayor (1987-1995); Bond Madison Water Company (Board Member); and a former member of the Hamel Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Boeker was born in Hamel. He graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1952 and began his career in construction as a residential carpenter apprentice at Wm. Ohm & Son in Hamel. From 1954-1956, he joined the U.S. Army, active duty in Germany. In the mid-1950s, he worked as a carpenter for H.F. Martin Construction in Hamel and then for Hellrung Construction in Alton, as a foreman on commercial construction projects, until 1966. In 1966, he started R.W. Boeker Company Inc. in Hamel as a residential general contractor and then into commercial construction in 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Margie A. Boeker (nee Abert) of Hamel; sons, Scott R. Boeker and Hamel and Kerry L. Boeker, both of Hamel; daughter, Stacy R. (John) Bond of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Shelby R. Boeker of Hamel, Abbey M. Boeker of Hamel and Taylor M. Bond of Edwardsville; sister, Dolores E. Valent of Edwardsville; and sisters-in-law, Shirley M. Olsen of Hamel, Helen F. Beshears of Hamel, Fern E. Scheller of Alhambra, Linda Abert of Alhambra and Verna Abert of Highland.
He was preceded in death by his father, Erwin W. Boeker; mother, Martha L. Boeker (nee Schoeder); brother-in-law, Rollin E. Abert; sister-in-law, Betty J. Olive; brother-in-law, Russell Abert; sister-in-law, Vernette Hunsche; and brother in-laws, Joe Olsen, Don Beshears, Richard L. “Dick” Scheller, and Charles Hunsche.
Arrangements are being handled by Dauderman Mortuary in Hamel.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, and from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, with the Rev. Benjamin Ball, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Hamel.
