Robert Joseph Parker (Bobby Joe), 60, of Godfrey, entered into internal restful peace with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016.
He was born in Alton on June 19, 1955, the son of Bob Parker and Maria (Fritelli) Parker.
Bobby Joe was very athletic in the sports of baseball, basketball, golf, football, even though he struggled with epilepsy; which he was able to control, with help, most of his active life! He attended Western Illinois College and Southern Illinois University with graduate degrees in counseling and worked for the Catholic Children’s Home and YWCA. Bobby was a gentle, easygoing soul who people enjoyed being around; he loved playing his electric guitar with his brothers, Dennis and Larry, in the “Parker Brother’s Band,” for which there is a memorial brick at the Miles Davis Statue downtown Alton.
He is survived by his mother, Maria, of Godfrey; two sons, Bobby Parker of St. Louis and Chris Parker of Alton; two brothers, Roy Parker and Barbie Durr of Godfrey and Larry Parker of Godfrey; one sister-in-law, Dominika Parker of Alton; and several nieces and nephews.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert James Parker, in 2010; and brother, Dennis Parker, in 2008.
Visitation will be private.
Graveside service, open to friends, will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey in the Good Shepherd Section.
Memorials may be made for an Alton High School athletic scholarship.
