Robert “Bob” Walter Myers, 87, of Wood River, passed away at 11:39 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Saint Louis University Hospital.
Born in Wood River Nov. 4, 1928, he was the son of Charles Walter and Pauline (Maxey) Myers.
A Korean War Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS Shenandoah AD-26. Bob had served on the Board of Education at East Alton-Wood River Community High School 24 years, having been a member and past president. He also was an active member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Wood River, Wood River Kiwanis Club, Wood River Moose Lodge No. 1348, Wood River Masonic Lodge No. 1062, Ainad Shrine, East Alton American Legion Post 794, Alton Eagles Aeries 254 and Wood River Heritage Council and Museum.
He retired in 1996 from the Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Services in St. Louis and had been a branch manager for Shell Community Federal Credit Union.
On March 8, 1952, in East Alton, he married Virginia I. Taylor. She died Oct. 4, 1997.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel (Hope) Myers of Rosewood Heights and Tobin Myers (Pam Rush) of Godfrey; sister, Barbara Blaine of Bethalto; and nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Phyllis (Myers) Moore.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016. Pastor Kimberly Allen will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Kiwanis Club, 1st United Methodist Church, Wood River Moose Lodge or Mooseheart.
