Robert O. “Bob” Sharp, 89, of Granite City, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
He was born Sept. 23, 1925, in St. Louis, a son of the late Robert E. Sharp and Alice M. (Farwig) Moore. He married Elveria L. (Rayburn) Sharp on Nov. 24, 1955, at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church and she passed away on Jan. 7, 2006.
Bob retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Company in St. Louis after 36 years of dedicated service in bottling. He was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 688 in St. Louis. He was a professional roller skater and had taught rollerskating through the years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City and was an avid sports fan, always enjoying his days of fishing, hunting and watching sporting events.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Gloria L. Sharp of Granite City; three daughters, Sharon Sharp of Granite City, Rebecca Sharp of Granite City and Patricia Sanders of O’Fallon, Mo.; six grandchildren, Robert Sharp Jr., Matthew Sharp, Blake Reed, Brooke Reed, Matt Sanders and Sam Sanders; one half brother, Ronald Moore of St. Louis; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Sharp; two brothers, Carvin Sharp and Alvin Sharp and two half sisters, Alice Trumble and Iris Merritt. In celebration of his life, visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2015, with Father Manuel Cuizon as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
