Robert Ranney Rich, 74 of Granite City, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Liberty Village in Maryville with his family by his side.
Robert was born on May 9, 1940, in Granite City, a son to the late E.R. “Pat” and Vivian E. (Treece) Rich. Robert was the owner of Rich Oil Company, where his daughter was secretary for 14 years. He retired in 2005 after 35 years of business. He was a member of 1st United Presbyterian Church in Granite City, the Granite City Elks Lodge 1063 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. In his free time Robert loved to play golf and watch Mizzou football and basketball. He enjoyed polishing his car collection, watching Indy car and NASCAR racing and watching his boy Pat play soccer. Robert will be remembered for his kind heart and the many special times he shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by and will be missed by his daughter; Tracy and (Jeff) Frost of Granite City; son, Pat Rich of Vero Beach, Fla.; sister, Ann Rich of Granite City.
In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wife, Myrna (Bischoff) Rich; daughter, Kelly Lynne Rich; and sister, Donna Rich.
In celebration of his life, a private family visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, with Pastor Jeff Welch officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to 1st United Presbyterian Church, 2160 Delmar Ave., Granite City, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
