Robert Ray Chaney, 78, of Wood River, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center of Alton.
He was born on Jan. 22, 1937, in Science Hill, Ky., the son of the late William and Alice (Bloomer) Chaney.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a millwright at Granite City Steel before retiring. He was a member of the South Roxana American Legion and Wood River Moose Lodge No. 1349.
On May 5, 1979, in Wood River, he married the former Mary Joan Cobine. She died September 27, 2013.
Surviving are two sons, Troy (Sherry) Chaney of Florida and Frank (Mary) Haynes of Bethalto; two daughters, Monica Haynes and Mona (Donald) Beckman, all of Wood River; four grandchildren, Michael Haynes, Diana Haynes, Heather (Jeff) O’Toole and Chantelle (Gilbert) Parker-Travino; two great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Judy) Chaney of Prairietown; and a sister, Sharon (Norman) Stearns of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; daughter, Tracie Campbell; granddaughter, Jasmine Campbell; and sister, Linda Emory.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors by Bunker Hill American Legion and U.S. Navy.
