Roland Gale Wolter, 81, of Godfrey, formerly of Steeleville, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at his residence in Godfrey, with his family by his side.
He was born in Percy, Ill., on Oct. 2, 1934, the son of Elmer and Marie (Bierman) Wolter.
He married Ruth Wolters on Oct. 14, 1956, in Steeleville. She survives.
Gale worked as a carpenter for Carpenters Local 662 until retiring in 1994. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville and Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. He was a member of the United States Army from 1957 to 1963.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Dr. Scott (Marcey) Wolter of Godfrey; two grandchildren, Abigail and Aaron, and stepgranddaughter, Nora Steiner; three siblings, Betty Diercks, Norlyn (Marcine) Wolter and Merle (Linda) Wolter; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Neal Steven Wolter; and two brothers-in-law, Roland Diercks and Loren Wolters.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Additional visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville with Pastor Kenneth Tegtmeier and Parish Ministry Assistant Julie Posth presiding.
Interment will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville.
