Ron Webb, 71, of Alton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Oct. 15, 1943, in Alton, the son of the late Lance and Elaine (Hlastan) Webb.
Ron attended St. Mary’s School and Marquette Catholic High School in Alton. He received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in elementary education from SIUE in 1967 and 1976. He taught 37 years in the Alton School District. Twenty–two of those years were spent teaching third- and fifth-grade gifted students in the gifted program. He also taught two years at St. Ambrose School in Godfrey.
In 1996, he was awarded Emerson Electric Companies Excellence in Teaching Award. In 1999 he was awarded the state of Illinois’ State Board of Education Those Who Excel Award of Meritorious Service.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Alton for 59 years where he served as lector, Eucharistic Minister, Server, and Money Counter. He was a member of the Godfrey Knights of Columbus.
Ron also enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling.
He is survived by friends and a cousin.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of Memorial Mass at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Fr. Steve Pohlman as celebrant.
Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.
