Ruby Catherine Jones, 90, of Granite City, passed away at 2:38 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Dover, Tenn., a daughter of the late William Calvin and Adie Grace (Waggoner) Owens. She married Ray E. Jones Sr. on Aug. 24, 1957, and he passed away on May 29, 2006. Ruby was a loving and dedicated homemaker. In her early years, she and her best friend, Beulah, had owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Truck Stop in Granite City. Ruby and her green thumb loved nature and enjoyed working with flowers and feeding the birds. She cherished her children and grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gerald Owens of Granite City and Ray E. and Jennifer Jones Jr. of Jerseyville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Katheryne Pulley of Granite City and Terry and Tracy Harper of Rolla, Mo.; seven granddaughters, Katelynne Jones, MacKenzie Jones, Heather Marie Cox, Amanda Jones-Stogsdill, Stephany Kiselka, Brittany Pulley and Emily Pulley; one grandson, Gerald Owens II; eight great-grandchildren, Raymond Fears II, William Spicer III, Kaylie Stogsdill, Kylie Stogsdill, Skylar Kiselka, Nevah Kiselka, Bentley Pulley and Nicholas Kiselka; one brother, Steve Underwood of Troy, Mo.; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Tommy Jones; three brothers, William Leroy Owens, William Charles Owens and Frank Owens; and two sisters, Nellie Ireland and Alma York.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, with the Rev. Sherman Smith officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
