Ruth A. Houser, 84, of Granite City, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on July 3, 1931, in Granite City, a daughter to the late Anton and Vangelia (Dokoff) Eftimoff.
Ruth co-owned Houser Auto Parts in Granite City with her husband for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Minerva Women’s Club, Business and Professional Women’s Association, Elketts No. 1063 and volunteered countless hours as a member of the Hospital Auxiliary in Granite City. She will be remembered for her kind heart and all the special times she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed by her husband, William “Bill” Houser, whom she married on Oct. 24, 1954; her daughters, Leslie and (Edward) Eicher of Kirkwood, Mo., Lori and (Hans) VanArkel of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and her grandchildren, Gerrit VanArkel, Dane VanArkel, Kirk VanArkel, William Eicher and Katharine Eicher.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Slav Eftimoff.
In celebration of her life, friends may gather from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association and Lincoln Place Heritage Association.
