Ruth E. Goss, 97, of East Alton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at VIP Manor in Wood River.
She was born Jan. 14, 1917, in Creal Springs, Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Cora (Smith) Suit.
Ruth married Clyde C. Goss in St. Charles, Mo. He preceded her in death.
Ruth worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses in the Alton area. She was a member of the Heartland Baptist Church in Alton and the LIFT program for widows and widowers. She enjoyed traveling, but her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them and her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Pat Conway of Godfrey and Pam Gray and her spouse, Jim, of Rosewood Heights; a stepdaughter, Marjorie Hembree of Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn and Kevin Weber, Chris Conway, Denise and Randy Meeks, Diana and Russ Grable, Darin Gray and Jill Pifer Gray; her best friend for more than 55 years, Margaret Sons of Wood River; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters, Edna Mount, Gladys Hiller, Mary Chester, Hazel Gaitrus, Helen Kravenek and Alma Suit; two brothers, Carl Suit and Ervin Suit; a son-in-law, Ronnie Conway; a stepson-in-law, Jim Hembree; and a stepson and daughter-in-law, Frank and Retha Goss.
As per her request, there will be no visitation. Interment will be at the Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or of one’s choice.
