Ruth Maxine Determan, 89, of Wood River, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at Integrity of Wood River.
She was born Aug. 1, 1926, in St. Louis, a daughter of the late Leonard and Grace (Hopkins) Caldwell. She married William A. “Bill” Determan Aug. 22, 1948, in St. Louis and he passed away Dec. 12, 2014.
She had touched and guided many lives through over 30 years as a teacher. She had taught many years at Wood River High School in Physical Education and later at Collinsville High School in Business Education. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bethalto. Ruth enjoyed sewing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and attending class reunions through the years. She and her husband enjoyed their years of traveling and square dancing and were members of the Rings Hoe Downers.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sue Determan of Wood River; daughter-in-law, Pamela Determan of Wood River; four grandchildren and spouses, Jay Kemp, Jill and Chris Rosecrans, Dax Determan, Edgar Determan and Denny Determan; four great-grandchildren, Jesse Kemp, Pearl Determan, Daisy Determan and Dax Wolfgang Determan; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Donald Palubiak of St. Louis; sister-in-law, Ramona Determan of Wood River; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Alice Determan of Irving, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Donald Palubiak of St. Louis; many nieces; nephews; numerous beloved students; other extended family and many special friends.
In addition to her beloved husband of 66 years and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas and Dennis Determan; and a sister, Elaine Talbot.
In celebration of her life, memorial visitation will be 3 p.m. until time of memorial service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Pitchford Funeral Home, 2555 Vaughn Road in Wood River, with the Rev.
