Ruth VonSchmittou, 99, of Marietta, Ga., and formerly of Granite City, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at Tranquility Hospice in Marietta, Ga.
She was born Aug. 1, 1915, in Fishery, Tenn.; a daughter of the late John Buford and Bertha (Spears) Wilson. She married Doyle VonSchmittou on April 15, 1934, in Vanleer, Tenn., and he passed away on Feb. 2, 1979.
She had worked at Port Noy’s Garment Company in Granite City with many years of dedicated factory work and sewing. She loved her days of crocheting and quilting and was an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Norma Jean Rudd of Marietta, Ga.; honorary daughter, Georgann Wood of Florida; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Roger Wood; a son-in-law, Wilson Rudd; and a sister, Ida Moore.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 5 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. with the Rev.
