Samuel H. Grace, 84, of Granite City, went to his Heavenly home at 3:25 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born March 11, 1930, in Hopkinsville, Ky., a son of the late Samuel Levi and Annie (Johnson) Grace.
He married Nadine (Hale) Grace on April 18, 1953, in Madison, and she survives. Sam was a generous man and hard worker, having worked more than 10 years each with the Alton & Southern Railroad, American Steel Foundries, Motel 6 and as the Village Lane Apartments manager along with many other companies and self-employment enterprises. He was a longtime member of the Frontiersmen Camping Fraternity (FCF), had served as senior leader to one of the largest group of the Assemblies of God Royal Rangers (a Christian version of Boy Scouts) in Illinois. Sam, a praying man, faithful to the Gospel of Jesus, and a lifelong dedicated Christian, attended Word of Life Tabernacle.
In addition to his beloved wife of 61 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, George Samuel and Susan Grace of Princeton, Ky., and Michael Roy and Gina Grace of Granite City; six precious grandchildren, Jason Grace of Henderson, Nev., Trisha Farnam of Imperial, Mo., Adam Grace of Granite City, Johnny Grace of Murray, Ky., David Grace of Princeton, Ky., and April Gordon of Princeton, Ky.; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ola Pike of Evansville, Ind.; one stepbrother, Charles Wells of Evansville, Ind.; other extended family and many cherished friends. Sam never knew a stranger.
In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by three granddaughters, Jaime Grace, Amanda “Amy” Grace and Penny McGregor; two brothers, James Grace and Franklin Grace and two sisters, Lillian Grace and Frances Hancock.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Word of Life Tabernacle, 4870 Maryville Road in Granite City at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, with the Rev. Henry Crippen and Reverend Larry Hale officiating.
