Sheryl Kay Evans, 70, of Granite City, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Meridian Village, Glen Carbon.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1945, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Edward and Evelyn (Donley) Glozik.
Sheryl was a devoted elementary teacher at Nameoki and Maryville Schools in Granite City for many years. After teaching, she became a Guidance Counselor at Granite City High School, retiring in 1995. After retirement Sheryl continued to work as a counselor at Southwestern Illinois College. She enjoyed cooking, attending culinary classes, volunteering with the Lewis and Clark Museum and sharing her knowledge with others. Sheryl had a love for animals, nature and was a member of the Audubon Society. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, whom she adored. Sheryl loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Sheryl was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Thomas G. Plant.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Plant of Zionsville, Ind.; proud grandmother to Julia and Thomas Plant of Zionsville, Ind.; dear sister, Marilyn Anderson of Valley Park, Mo.; and her significant other for 36 years, Gene Baker of Granite City.
In celebration of her life, a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City.
Memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Society and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
