Shirley L. Gibson, 86, passed away at 11: 52 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015, after a short illness.
She was born on July 17, 1928, in Springfield, the daughter of John and Edna Catherine (Jones) Robbins.
She married John R. Gibson on Oct. 30, 1948, in Springfield. He preceded her in death.
Shirley was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends, traveling, working with her flowers, sitting in her window watching “her” birds and was involved with senior activities in the area. She loved her grandchildren and followed their activities with great interest. Shirley was a loving woman who was loved by many.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Rose Gibson of Alton; and a daughter, Cheryl Sorrels of Munster, Ind.; and four grandchildren and their spouses, Keith and Robin Sorrels of Nashville, Tenn., John and Kerry Gibson of St. Louis, Gregg Sorrels and Marcia Bazan of Chicago and Joel and Ashley Gibson of Alton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant daughter, Catherine Gibson.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Elias, Kallal Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a Memorial Tree Project at Glazebrook Park or Charity of One’s Choice.
