Shirley M. Jurgena, 82, of Roxana, formerly of Granite City, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at her home.
Shirley was born on Oct. 13, 1932, in Kane, Ill., a daughter to the late Edward and Ida (Scoggins) Howland Clonts. She was a packer for more than 13 years at Owens Illinois Glass in Alton and worked as a waitress at the Collinsville Holiday Inn for 10 years. She was member of the Moose Heart in Wood River and a caregiver for eight years. Shirley loved her family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
She is survived by and will be missed by her children; Marilyn Cohn of Roxana,Priscilla Belden of Roxana, Rodney Jurgena of Hartford; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Priscilla Awalt of Granite City, Patricia Maxwell of Granite City and Sheila Chronister of Granite City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Jurgena, whom she married on July 29, 1956; six brothers and three sisters.
In celebration of her life, friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon Monday, March 16, 2015, with Pastor Henry Crippen officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates. Memorials are suggested to the family.
